1st birthday celebration in 2009

Last weekend, i had the opportunity to celebrate birthday with one of my travel mates and his name is Uncle Francis Low. It's been a trend among us to celebrate everyone's birthday in the group as a way to keep in touch and also time to plan for our next holiday destination. This round, the birthday celebration was held in Neptine Seafood Restaurant in Batu Kawan.

This restaurant is one of my personal favourites and the price is relatively cheap compare to seafood restaurants in island. Their signatures dishes are baked prawn mantis which on seasonal basis, black pepper crab, fried tofu and many more which i yet to explore :)

We ordered 6 dishes and here it goes ....

The first to arrive was "chik lei". I don't know what this thing called in english but it's very good. You need to use toothpick to take the meat out from the shell.

This is how the meat of "chik lei" look like. I know it looks like snail or shit to some people but the taste is yummy. All you need to do is dip it into chilly sauce then straight to your mouth .. yummy.

2nd to land was "Teochew Mee Tiau". The taste was alright but not the authentic teochew mee tiau that we used to have. This one already modified by the cook but still ok lar if you're not so critical like me :)

Next was fried squid and i will say this my favourite of the night. The squid was well deep fried, crunchy inside out and not oily. Hmnn ... really good.

4th was bamboo prawns. The prawns were very fresh and big too. Not spicy but not my favourite .. maybe because i don't like the sauce. Can't really tell it taste like what .. in between of tom yam & sweet sour sauce?

Fried tofu was next in line. By the time we ate the rest, i can't really tell what's inside this fried tofu. What i know is, the texture of this tofu was very soft and smooth. Crunchy outside and soft inside but sorry, this dish was the least i favor on that night. I ate one piece only :P

This was the highlight of the nite .. black pepper crab. Highly recommended as the sauce is perfect, crabs very fresh and black pepper is excellent. What more to say, right?

And finally, our dearest birthday "boy" with his wife.

Uncle Low, i would like to take this opportunity to wish you, "Happy Belated Birthday". It's my honor to have known you and Aunty Lisa for the past 1.5 years and i thank God for all the opportunities to travel together. I'm looking forward for more and may you be healthy at all times.
